India and Idaho are the only two places in the world that star garnets are found. They vary in size from a grain of sand to golf ball size. Garnets Star show a reflection of light with a star of four or six ray, which is caused by the inclusion of rutile in the gemstone. Idaho is the only known place where they met six ray star garnets.
The U.S. Forest Service operates a star garnet zone gem collection at the Emerald Creek, Idaho. For a fee of $ 10 per day the treasure hunter can look for garnets and remove a maximum of five kilos of jewels. Pictures of the screen, buckets and spades are provided by the Service Forestry, however you should bring drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, gloves and a container for their treasures. The treasure hunting season begins in late May and lasts until after Labor Day. No pets.
How do
Use the spade and fill the five gallon plastic bucket dirt and rocks in the mining area. Next, take the cube of the control area and examine all the dirt and sand leaving only rocks. Next, take your collection of rocks to one of two lock boxes for washing equipment and for garnets. Any rock that seems to have a glossy plastic as the brightness could be a garnet.
The garnets found in the creek are nearly opaque emerald and be a dark red or purple in color. Large, good quality stones are rare and almost half of the precious stones found not be of sufficient quality for cutting or polishing. Many of the stones show a four-ray stars, but the star of six rays is very rare. A good star garnet quality may reach $ 100 per carat.
The name Garnet is believed to come from the grenade. Many ancient pieces of jewelry have groups of stones red to resemble a cluster of pomegranate seeds. Travelers often carried garnets to protect them from accidents. Legends suggest that the garnets will turn night and to protect owners from nightmares. Noah also has been rumored that he used a garnet lantern to navigate the Ark of the night.
Happy hunting treasure.
