Im making a multicultural theme, with my preschoolers. Does anyone have suggestions for activities we can do?
I taught a 4-year pre-group school. We are studying the 5 continents of the world throughout term 3. Does anyone have any ideas of art and crafts, group time ideas, cooking ideas, games, the ideas of the areas of interest or anything? Thank you!
I did something similar with a group of preschoolers. Every couple of weeks, which has a "letter" of a child from anywhere in the world. These were created by teachers, of course. In the letter, the boy said "hello" in your language native and describes their family, home, neighborhood, school, pets, transport, holidays and traditions, and hobbies. The letters included photos to provide visual information, and sometimes includes other small "gifts" and a music CD that country. The letter was read at the time of the group, and a sticker placed on a world map to represent the house of our new friend. The photos were displayed on the dashboard near the map. A good resource to start with a unit like this is the book Dorling Kindersley, "Children Just Like Me". The children took a plane ride to visit the country imaginary country of our friend, and activities during the next two weeks focused on that country. For example, when our children received a letter from a friend in China, learned to use chopsticks, looked at samples Chinese calligraphy and painting imitates black, made simple kites, played Eagel & Chicks, a traditional Chinese game, the stories heard in time of history, made paper lanterns, learned to count to 10 in China, sometimes learned paper fans, vegetables brought from home, helped wash and cut, there was a teacher sautéed, and eaten at tea with soy sauce and rice, etc. There was also a slideshow of additional images on the computer, and children enjoyed to see and discuss. At the end of two weeks, the children helped write a "note of thanks" to our new friend, describing the things he learned and did so for the unit. The following Monday, which would receive a letter from a friend and start again. Letters and photos were compiled into a book that children could view it evening. The kids really seemed to enjoy these activities! I would be happy to share more activities if you tell me more about what you're looking for!
