Preschool anxiety? . . .?
My oldest daughter started preschool three weeks ago. She does well in new environments with new faces (babysitters, new friends and etc) so I didn’t have any problems with dropping her off or picking her up 4 hours later. This week, she stopped eating from her lunch box at school but asked for it when we came home and finished all of its contents. When I called and asked her teacher, she said she was not as talkative as the previous weeks and didn’t seem interested in food at all. My daughter normally has a healthy appetite, broccoli and bean sprouts being her favorite foods. It was quite a surprise to me that she wouldn’t talk or eat her lunch at school. I’m thinking that maybe she’s under stress from being away from home and adapting to being with other kids while I’m not around. Does this mean I should pull her out of preschool? Her teacher tells me that she is bright and active otherwise, engages into play and other activities though. Should I just keep her in preschool?
I wouldn’t recommend that you take her out of preschool. You are making an assumption that she’s under stress, and it would be such a shame if you were incorrect.
This is my only thought….your daughter has wonderful, but very rare, I think, eating habits for a young girl. I wonder if maybe one of the children had something bad to say about her lunch? Something that made her feel embarrassed to be eating it?
I’d be curious to know what her answer is when you ask her why she decided not to eat her lunch…
Best wishes, Mama!! I know this sorta stuff is so hard for us!!
